Bigfoot Hand Print in Florida

Admittedly, Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot is a pretty obscure television show. So obscure that it isn’t even listed on Epguides, and it doesn’t even have its own Wikipedia page. Everything has a Wikipedia page these days.

Nevertheless, it’s right up my alley and odds are someone might stumble upon these reviews and give it a look — or give it a pass — as a result. Either way, here we go.

The second episode of Finding Bigfoot finds us in Florida, home to the infamous Skunk Ape (which, incidentally, does have its own Wikipedia page).

Now the so-called Skunk Ape is something particularly interesting to Bigfooters. While Bigfoot sightings in the Pacific Northwest remain reasonably consistent, so too do the sightings of the Skunk Ape in the Florida Everglades—but the two, together, don’t match. Instead, the Skunk Ape is thought to be something of a cousin to the vanilla Bigfoot. Shorter, redder, and accompanied by a pungent methane odor that gives it its name. Still, like Bigfoot, the Skunk Ape has passed from Native American legend into modern times and Finding Bigfoot is about to dig up all they can on the creature.

Finding Bigfoot: Episode 2

Finding Bigfoot

I like Bigfoot. In fact, I like a lot of weird things, like the paranormal, aliens, and cryptoids but Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, tops them all. Weird, I know. But you can imagine my interest when I heard about a new show on Animal Planet called Finding Bigfoot. I had to check it out.

Now if you’re into these sorts of shows then let me lay out the field for you. Finding Bigfoot falls somewhere in between a show like MonsterQuest and a show like Ghost Hunters. For those of you that don’t follow these kinds of shows  let me put it to you this way. Finding Bigfoot falls in the spectrum between a show featuring tenured academics weighing in on strange creatures and unusual happenings, and a show featuring a bunch of guys running around hunting ghosts with night-vision cameras.

Finding Bigfoot: Episode 1

The Making of Bigfoot

The only thing less impressive than Greg Long’s skills as a writer are his skills as an investigator.

In The Making of Bigfoot writer and self-professed journalist Greg Long sets out to uncover the truth about the famous Patterson-Gimlin film. The Bigfoot film. Captured in the late 1960′s the film features about forty seconds of an unknown bi-pedal creature walking across a creek in the middle of the woods. Allegedly filmed in Northern California by two amateur Bigfoot hunters (Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin) it has been the subject of much controversy since its release forty years ago. Greg Long decides to put all the questions and controversy to rest, once and for all and by the end of the book he is satisfied that he’s done exactly that.

Let me be clear though, if I handed in The Making of Bigfoot as a term paper in University I would receive it back to me, almost immediately, chalk-full of red pen.

The Making of Bigfoot (2004)

Bigfoot

Maria picked up Bigfoot: The Life and Times of a Legend off the non-fiction new releases rack at our library. She knows me so well.

It was a pretty good read, in a way. Through the course of the book, the author, an “independent scholar” with a fairly strange name, Joshua Blu Buhs, sets out to frame the legend of Bigfoot in terms of its larger societal impact. From the outset, this seemed like a pretty interesting idea. I’ve had an interest in Bigfoot since, I think, I discovered my own big feet (size 12, not bad) so a book about society and the Bigfoot monster seemed like something good to read. But it was, to be sure, a little bit too good to be true.

Bigfoot: Life and Times of a Legend (2009)

Author: Keith Little | Filed under: Books

My favourite cryptozoology website, Cryptomundo, has this latest break in the Bigfoot case file. Toy-maker Fisher Price is set to release this Bigfoot toy at Toy Fair 2010, in New York City this weekend. Bigfoot the Monster, is remote-controlled and capable of makes faces, stomping around and can even flip over (now that’s something we haven’t even seen in the real Bigfoot).

When asked if footprints, photographs, video footage and eyewitness evidence surrounding Bigfoot was simply an extremely clever 50-year long viral marketing campaign, the toy-maker refused to comment.
