Articles from May, 2010...

My friend Sara posted this on my Facebook Wall in response to the video I linked to earlier.

Leave it to someone to find all of the answers to the questions we were left with after the LOST finale.

It’s as amusing as the original LOST questions video was. Pretty clever.

LOST: Answers to Questions

Author: Keith Little | Filed under: From the Web, Television

I got into Sufjan Stevens on the cusp of the release of Michigan, his breakout album which would insure his rise to the top of the indie rock charts. Here was a guy doing something really new and interesting and, at the time, nobody had really heard of him. But, as it turns out, my future wife knew about him too, having seen him open for her Aunt and Uncle in a particularly unimpressive performance that must’ve surely been among his first as a solo artist—she even had a copy of his CD, I was impressed.

Of all the artists that write great songs Sufjan writes the best; it’s hard to choose my favourite track and if backed into a corner this probably wouldn’t be it. But I love this video too much not to choose it to share with you. So enjoy.

Neti Pot

It’s like a little tea pot that you fill up with a saline solution and stick in your nose. This, my friends, is the neti pot.

If you’ve never heard of it before then you must not watch Oprah. For the record, I don’t watch Oprah, but heard about this wonderful instrument from someone that does. The neti pot is something that I absolutely swear by for relief from allergies and nasal congestion.

It works by adding a bit of salt and some warm water, tilting your head, and pouring the solution into one nostril. The result is the water flowing through your nasal cavity and out the other nostril. Then you switch nostrils and repeat. The whole process flushes out lots of stuff from your nose and clears you right up. In allergy season, the neti pot helps to flush out allergens before they have a chance to build up and disrupt your otherwise peaceful existence.

I swear by the neti pot because it works, but it takes a lot of work. During the winter months I use the neti pot at least once a day. I find this helps fight off colds. If I get a cold, I’ll use it twice a day or more because it’s great at flushing out congestion. Sounds awesome, eh? During allergy season I use the neti pot twice a day, in the morning and at night, and the results have been incredible. While in University, I used to get allergy shots because my allergies were pretty bad. Since I started using the neti pot—for the past two summers—I haven’t got shots and haven’t had a lot of problems with my allergies either. The neti pot flushes everything out.

I know it’s weird and kind of gross, but it’s something that I swear by. The neti pot works as long as you’re willing to commit to it; it’s not a one-off solution you have to stick with it. If you do get a neti pot there are a slew of helpful videos on YouTube to guide you through the process. You could also take a look at them if you’re curious to see what kind of weirdos use this thing.

The End

Well, it’s over, and almost right away juries around the world began to weigh in on what was one of the most hyped series finales in recent memory. The LOST finale: The End. Before the final episode opinions, objections, predictions and criticisms flew left, right and centre. Would we have our questions answered? Would we be left hanging? Would we be satisfied? Would fans feel appropriately rewarded for their six years of loyalty? Since everyone and their uncle is offering their review I, of course, must add mine to the chorus of voices. So, here we go…

I rarely like the stuff put out by College Humor but, for a LOST fan, this video is absolutely brilliant:

Yes Man

This past weekend, Maria and I watched Yes Man, a film which we normally wouldn’t have rented if it were not free from the library. I’m going to summarize my thoughts on this film in three paragraphs. I think that’s all it will take. This paragraph does not count.

In this special Victoria Day edition of Favourite Tracks I’d like to give a nod to two things: The fact that we don’t have to work today(!) and to the Monarchy who made all of this possible. To celebrate this great Canadian tradition, here are two tracks for one of the greatest bands of all time The Tragically Hip.

Music @ Work

After seeing the power and energy behind this performance I’ve decided that I could probably spare a couple digits to see The Hip live; that or I could just save up and pay for tickets.

Poets

And, of course, a classic piece of Canadiana. If you haven’t seen this before, you must. It’s The Hip performing live at the Queen’s Jubilee in Canada. I’ve never seen the whole Jubilee concert but if The Tragically Hip were on the bill I can’t imagine what other acts were involved, and what kind of wacky showcase of Canadian culture the Queen was treated too. Brilliant though, really.
